North American  Commission For Partnership in Mission

Theological Reflection Underlying the Mission Statement

The Redemptorists of the North American region accept and embrace the universal call to holiness articulated by the Second Vatican Council when it states:

It is therefore quite clear that all Christians in any state or walk of life are called to the fullness of Christian life and to the perfection of love, and by this holiness, a more human manner of life is fostered also in earthly society. (Lumen Gentium, #39)

and

Through their Baptism and Confirmation, all are commissioned to mission by the Lord Himself. (Lumen Gentium, #33)

These same Redemptorists believe that their particular path to holiness consists in the faithful following of Jesus Christ, as envisioned by their founder, St. Alphonsus Liguori, in proclaiming the Gospel, especially to the poor and most abandoned.

In recent years, stimulated by the ecclesiology of the Second Vatican Council, the Church has become more clearly conscious of the complementarity of the religious and lay vocations. Hence, collaboration between religious institutes and the laity is being promoted as one of the means best calculated to develop the apostolic dynamism of both religious and laity as well as giving clear witness to the evangelizing mission of the ecclesial community.(Communicanda #4, 8 September, 1995)

And so, the Redemptorists of North America have established a Commission for Partnership in Mission to:

1. Generate and implement ideas to cultivate Alphonsian/Redemptorist spirituality among all Christ's faithful through such means as:
- creating a Redemptorist prayer book for Redemptorist Associates and parishes
- congresses or convocations
- newsletters
- retreats
- pilgrimages
- North American gatherings of Lay Missionaries of the Most Holy Redeemer

2. Collect, develop and make available to all units resources for initial and ongoing formation of Redemptorist Associates and Lay Missionaries of the Most Holy Redeemer, using the www.redemptorists.com website as the primary vehicle of distribution.

3. Honour the diversity of the North American region by investigating the needs of multi-cultural communities.

4. Act as liaison between the North American region and the General Secretariat for Partnership in Mission.

5. Establish a North American Office of Lay Collaboration and hire/appoint a Director to:
- carry forward the day-to-day working of the Commission
- maintain the section of www.redemptorists.com devoted to the Redemptorist North American Commission for Partnership in Mission.
