The World
The world today is full of marvels and wonders. It seems like everyday there is something new coming out in the realms of medicine and technology that helps to
make us live longer, healthier and more enjoyable lives. Even something like the internet has made incredible strides in the area of global communication that people only a quarter of a century ago could hardly have imagined.
Unfortunately, not everything new that we discover brings with it sweetness and light. Our modern lifestyle takes a heavy toll on the earth and its environment. Many practices that we take for granted in our society are detrimental to other lands and cultures around the world. Some advances in science and medicine which seem good to us now may hold consequences for us in the not too distant future. How are we to strike a balance between our desire for progress and maintaining a balance with nature, our brothers and sisters around the world, and with our creator?
The Redemptorists strive to be men who are in touch with the world. We seek information and knowledge and embrace change where it is needed. But we are also sensitive to the needs of the many people who are harmed by greed and arrogance. We try to be a voice for the voiceless and advocates for those who cannot help themselves. Through teaching, activism and yes, even writing and singing our songs, we try to be a voice of reason and faith in the ongoing conversation.
